Frequently Asked Questions

What is "deep oiling" for hair growth?

Deep hair oiling is the application of a fair amount of hair oil applied onto the scalp using our deep oiling brush applicator. First thoroughly brush your hair to remove tangles because you don't want to brush it after the oil is applied (this can cause breakage.) Apply the oil onto your scalp in small sections while you gently squeeze the product out from the bottle. Use your hands to gently spread the oil down the hair shafts and ends. You don't need to apply so heavily that it is dripping, but enough that you are confident each follicle and strand has a little hair oil on it. Next you use your scalp massager to gently massage the roots of your hair all over your scalp for 5-20 minutes. After you can wrap your hair in saran wrap to create a sauna like effect, or just tie your hair up loosely with a scrunchie or claw clip. Leave oil in for 1-4 hours.

Can I sleep with my deep oiling treatment on?

We don't recommend sleeping with the deep oil treatment on your hair, because it can make washing it out a little tricky and the oil attracts dust from the air. 1-4 hours is a good limit, but you can even wash your hair right after you finish your massage if time is limited.

How do I wash the oil out after deep oiling?

You will need to do a thorough double shampoo process after deep hair oiling. If you have highly porous hair, you may need to use a clarifying shampoo for the first wash, and your regular shampoo for the second. When you wash your hair, you want to apply decent pressure and really scrub your scalp all over and rinse thoroughly after each wash. Remember: it is normal to see extra hair fall after hair oiling because it lubricates the hair that your scalp was just about to shed.

Why am I seeing more hair fall in my hair washes?

If you are starting to wash your hair less frequently, you will notice more hair fall in the shower than when you wash daily, because it is an accumulated amount. Your natural scalp oils can trap loose strands that don't fall out until your next wash. This means, if you wash your hair once a week, you will have up to 7 days of hair fall coming out in the shower. Some comes out when we brush our hair, but the oilier our roots are, the more loose hair gets trapped. It is also normal to notice extra hair fall after deep oiling due the the lubricant properties of oil.

Do I really need to invest in Olaplex shampoo, conditoner, and serum?

If you already have a different brand of shampoo and conditioner products you use - whether it is due to budget, scalp conditions, or just personal preference, keep using it. We highly reccomend Olaplex No. 9 serum as it is so silky and effective. If you are doing any blowdrying, straightening, or heat curling, we would say it is essential. In our product testing, we experimented with drugstore conditioner and did notice more split ends compared to Olaplex conditioner. Your hair is growing no matter what, your products and care afterwards are what help you keep that length.

I need to wash my hair everyday! Do I really need to change this?

We get it. So many factors go into our hair washing schedule: habit, fine hair, oily scalp, dandruff, sweat, odours! If you can even go 2 or 3 days between washing, this is preferred - slicked back low bun anyone? Think of your hair care routine like the gym and discipline. What is more important to you: daily hair washing or long hair?
